First Year of Work Overview, Key Achievements and Initiatives

Growth and Development

  • Sponsored and renewed a new moratorium to prevent high-density developments and ensure controlled growth
  • Rezoned a 77-acre Planned Unit Development from permitting 151 homes to a more sustainable five acres per lot
  • Sponsored a resolution calling on state and federal governments to replace the Highway 90 bridges

Infrastructure Improvements

  • Voted for millions in funding for:
    • A new wastewater treatment plant, sewer force main, Herwig Bluff lift station, and other improvements in the Cross Gates wastewater system
    • New water towers, tanks and infrastructure upgrades for Cross Gates water systems, with ongoing advocacy for a switch to free chlorine once upgrades are complete
    • The 2025 budget, allocating funds for drainage projects, including $1.2 million for the Military Road Urban Pond and multiple road improvement projects
  • Partnered with Public Works on key drainage and road initiatives, including:
    • A new project behind Cross Gates Athletic Club
    • The Murray Road Loop drainage project
    • Road Repairs on Cross Creek Drive and River Gardens neighborhood
    • Additional drainage improvements near Ochsner Hospital and other areas to benefit District 9

Community and Public Health Advocacy

  • Sponsored the Boil Water Advisory Public Health Ordinance for the Cross Gates Water System
  • Sponsored the Boil Water Advisory Electronic Notification Requirement Ordinance for private water carriers
  • Worked with the state legislature to update laws, enhancing oversight of the Library Board of Control by parish council
  • Led the replacement of the Library Board of Control with five new members to ensure better governance, ultimately surviving a legal challenge with a unanimous ruling by the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in the parish’s favor
  • Worked with Fire District 7 to ensure Hickory Station is properly staffed

Education and Training

  • Collaborated with the St. Tammany Parish School Board to introduce a plan to bring water and wastewater training and apprenticeships to Pearl River High School

Community Engagement and Transparency

  • Held monthly community meetings to connect the northern and southern parts of the district
  • Regularly provides daily district updates via social media and promptly address constituent concerns through email, text and phone calls
  • Regularly attends Pearl River Town Hall meetings and works closely with the mayor and aldermen

Recreation and Community Recognition

  • Expanded Recreation District 5 to include Brownswitch and Council District 8, adding two new board positions
  • Reduced Recreation District 7 boundaries for more manageable coverage and future millage support
  • Led council efforts to recognize three outstanding community organizations in District 9 for their service

Environmental and Property Management

  • Regularly worked with Code Enforcement to address violations and blighted properties, including the removal of a blighted trailer on Military Road
  • Partnered with the administration to replace lift station fences and the AT&T fence in Cross Gates

Awards and Honors

  • Earned the 2024 “Excellence in Service to Slidell” Award from the Slidell Ministers Association

Commitment to Accountability and Ethical Governance

  • Continues to lead the fight against lobbyists, special interests and big developers attempting to transform the parish council into a New Orleans-style model
  • Continues to advocate for a long-term solution for funding public safety, and conclude costly litigation between the parish and the District Attorney and the Judges of the 22nd JDC
  • Advocated for speed control measures and continues working to implement additional safety improvements across the district
